General rules for the use of grey water

  • Sanitise your hands after use
  • Use environmentally friendly detergents and soaps where possible
  • Don’t store grey water for longer than 24 hours as this will lead to bad odour, slime build-up and health risks
  • Don’t use grey water if any member of the household is sick
  • Don’t reuse nappy washing water
  • Don’t allow children and animals to come into contact with grey water
  • Don’t ever ingest or swallow grey water
  • Don’t spray grey water
  • Don’t allow grey water to leave the property and flow into stormwater drains or streams
  • Once you have used some grey water, don’t reuse that same greywater for anything else
