- What measures have been put in place to curb the increase in the number of cases of gender-based violence during the nationwide lockdown and (b) how is her Department assisting the victims of gender-based violence during the nationwide lockdown?
Answer Body:
- Various social media campaigns were used to promote the National GBV Command Centre call centre and the support available from the Provincial and National Departments of Social Development. All DSD local offices and NPOs specialising in GBV have remained operational during the lockdown.
- All shelters are operational during lockdown as Stage 1 and Stage 2 shelters. Psychosocial support and aftercare is provided to any person that is referred to DSD for support and a protocol is in place between DSD and SAPS and the WC Shelter Movement to facilitate this process.
