1)    (a) What is the number of gang shootings recorded in Parkwood Estate for the period between June 2019 and the latest date for which information is available, (b) how many people were arrested in connection with gangsterism in the same period, (c) what was the nature of the crime, (d) for those arrested, are they still in custody or have they been released on bail and (e) how many of those arrested are reoffenders;

(2)  whether the police station in Parkwood Estate is equipped and fully resourced to maintain law and order in the crime-ridden area; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?

Answer Body: 

(1)     (a)  22 gang related shootings were recorded in Parkwood Estate for the period 1 June 2019 to 30 June 2020.

           (b)    Gangsterism is not a registered crime. The arrest of suspects is based on specific crime categories. 22 Persons were arrested and charged in 16 of the 22 mentioned gang related shootings.

              (c)   10 counts of Murder and 15 counts of Attempted Murder were recorded in the 22 mentioned gang related shootings.

                 (d)  8 of the accused are still in custody and 8 are out on bail.

                 (e)   19 of the 22 accused are reoffenders

 

          (2)  Parkwood Estate does not have a police station. It forms part of Grassy Park policing precinct that is adequately resourced.
