With regard to a post on the Facebook page of the Embassy of Cuba in South Africa on 27 March 2020 that stated more than 200 Cuban doctors were working tirelessly in eight provinces to assist with the battle against Covid-19 in South Africa:

 

  1. Whether she can provide reasons why there are no Cuban doctors assisting in the Western Cape; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details;

 

  1. whether she can give reasons why the province has not indicated the need for assistance in accordance with the national government’s request, sent to provinces every year, to identify the need of specialised doctors from Cuba; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?
Answer Body: 
  1. The National Minister has indicated that he has requested assistance from Cuba and China for doctors. We are not aware that they have arrived yet, and if they should arrive, we should be afforded the opportunity to have access to them, like every other province. 

 

  1. We have launched our recruitment system for volunteer health workers, and will add any health workers with the pre-requisite skills to this system.
