(1)(a) What is the total number of learners in schools on farms and (b)(i) how many buses are utilised for learner transport and (ii) how much is budgeted for it;
(2) whether there are any learners from (a) Wolseley (b) Wellington, (c) Grabouw and (d) Stellenbosch who walk to school or pay for alternative transport to go to school; if not, why not; if so, for each town, (i) how many learners walk to school or pay for alternative transport to go to school and (ii) what the reasons are for the Department not providing transport;
(3) whether her Department plans to provide transport to these learners mentioned in (2); if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?

(2) This question is impossible to answer. The WCED does not have records ofthe different types of transport that each child takes in this province or walks to school.
According to National Policy, a learner living in a rural area and more than 5km from their nearest school may apply for Learner Transport via their schools. All learners who qualify for transport in terms of the Learner Transport Policy are considered for transport within the approved Budget. In the same areas mentioned, some children have to walk less than 100m to get to school.
Learners that receive a hostel subsidy do not receive transport according to policy.
