The Department of Social Development fund NGOs to run Youth Cafes. No department of Social Development officials work at youth cafes. The person named in the parliamentary question is, to the knowledge of the Department of Social Development, an employee of an NGO that runs a youth café in the Eden District.
The person named in the parliamentary question is an administrative manager at the above-mentioned NGO.

The Department is not aware of any fraud convictions against the person named, since the Department’s NGO funding policy prohibits Department officials from involving themselves in any way with HR processes or employee matters at funded NGOs. Regular monitoring and auditing of transfer funding from the Department is conducted on all NGOs funded by the Department, and no fraud or maladministration has been identified at youth cafés in the Eden District. If any evidence of fraud or misuse of state funding by the individual or the NGO running the youth café is provided to the department it will be investigated accordingly.
