Whether his Department can provide a breakdown of the latest data on the number of (a) murders and (b) attempted murders in what the Department deems to be the five priority crime areas over the last 12 months, as collected and monitored by the Western Cape Government’s Safety Plan Steering Committee?

Answer Body: 

The South African Police Service informed me as follows:

11.    (a)  The murder totals provided are based on the quarterly crime statistics released by the Minister of Police for the period 1 April to 31 December 2020 (9 months).

                 (i)   Bishop Lavis    -           63

                 (ii)  Delft                 -           175

                 (iii) Khayelitsha     -           204

                 (iv) Nyanga           -           152

                 (v) Philippi             -           55

                            (b)  The attempted murder totals provided are based on the quarterly crime statistics released by the Minister of Police for the period 1 April to 31 December 2020 (9 months).
