- Whether there were any cooperative plans in place between his Ministry, Disaster Management and Municipalities to deal with disasters on the province’s roads during the recent Easter holiday period: if not, why not; if so what (a) are the relevant details and (b) were the cost involved
- whether any private entities sponsored safety initiatives on the province’s roads; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?
- (a) Yes, it was agreed that Disaster Management would take the lead by setting up Joint Operational Centres (JOCs), together with representatives from Provincial Traffic and all other role players in the event of any disaster on the Province’s roads.
(b) There are no operational costs involved in the development of plans between the Department, Disaster Management and Municipalities.
- While there were no sponsorships, the following initiatives were undertaken by private entities:
- Free vehicle testing was conducted at private testing stations across the province before the start of the Easter Weekend.
- Daily media coverage was given to road safety on television, radio and in printed media.
- Interfaith organisations organised prayer sessions on identified routes.
