Community Safety
- Whether there are any plans to upgrade or rebuild the Woodstock Police Station; if not, why not; if so; (a) when and (b) what are the relevant details;
- whether any physical defects of the current building have been brought to his attention; if so,
- whether this is hampering policing; if so, what are the relevant details?
4. (1) The South African Police Service informed me as follows:
(a) Yes, there are plans for a new police station
(b) Woodstock is no 6 on the Capital Works priority list for the construction of a new police station. This office is dependent on National SAPS for further prioritization and funding and therefore cannot indicate when this project will commence.
(2) The Department of Community Safety inspected the police station in August 2012 and January 2015 and it was found that the building is very old and in poor condition. The ceiling was found to be in a dilapidating condition, some of the toilets were broken. These matters were reported to SAPS Provincial management in October 2012.
(3) The South African Police Service informed me as follows:
Service is hampered minimally as follows:
- CSC not practical to accommodate victims/ complainants and suspects.
- Only one (1) entrance and exit.
