  1. Whether anyone has been charged or prosecuted for vandalising schools; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details;
  1. (a)what is the total cost incurred for repairs to (i) primary schools and (ii) high schools in Mitchells Plain following the recent acts of vandalism and (b) where is the money for the repairs to the schools coming from to the schools?
Answer Body: 

15.     (1)     Principals and the SGBs of schools are responsible for reporting and pursuing vandalism cases with the South African Police Service. This question should be redirected to the Department of Community Safety.

(2)     (a)    The WCED can only provide information on those vandalism cases reported to the Safe School Call Centre. 

 

In the 2017/18 financial year only one school in Mitchells Plain reported vandalism, namely Cornflower PS. The vandalism was mostly directed to the ablution facilities of the school. The cost incurred for repairs for this incident was R 64 025.27.

(b)    The cost for this incident was incurred against the Emergency Maintenance Budget.
