Whether any cases of listeriosis have been reported in schools in the province; if so, (a) how many cases and (b) what plans has her Department put in place to combat cases of listeriosis at schools?
17. a) The Western Cape Education Department works closely with the provincial Department of Health on health matters, and acts on the department’s advice, as required. Only the Western Cape Health Department can confirm actual cases of reported listeriosis. I suggest that you contact the provincial Department of Health for details.
b) The matters pertaining to the listeriosis outbreak were communicated to all schools in the Western Cape Province through a detailed circular (0011/2018). The circular was jointly developed by my Department and the Department of Health. It was a carefully articulated circular that addressed the dangers as well as preventative measures.
