How much investment (monetary value) did Wesgro bring into each region of the province since 2009 compared to national government investment through the Department of Tourism?
Since 2009, Wesgro has secured R11 385 105 383 worth of investment for the Western Cape, of which the majority was landed in Cape Town functional region.
The City of Cape Town contributes 72% to the Western Cape GDP and is home to most of the major companies in the Western Cape.
During 2015/16, six out of the 10 investments committed by Wesgro were in the ICT and Film sectors. Cape Town is globally renowned for being the Western Cape hub for these two sectors, amongst others.
To boost the spread of foreign direct investment into other parts of the Western Cape, Wesgro is facilitating engagements with investors in regions across the province. This includes site visits to regions and mapping opportunities for investors.
Another key goal of the agency is to grow tourism in our regions, which is a major growth and jobs generator. Various strategies are being implemented to ensure the successful spread of tourism to all parts of the province.
