How many jobs were created as a result of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), which is supported by his Department, (b) what kind of jobs were created and (c) what is the demographic representation of those who are employed?
18. [a] A total of 993 new work opportunities were created from April until December 2017. The work opportunities were created through the following Expanded Public Works Programme [EPWP] projects:
Chrysalis Academy Youth Work Project, Alcohol Harms Reduction Game Changer in the areas of Gunya [Gugulethu and Nyanga], Lingelethu-West [Town 2] and Drakenstein [Paarl-East/Groenheuwel], General Works Programme namely Safer Festive Season Beach Programme and Amandla Edu-Football night league.
[b] Work opportunities were created for a period of 12 months. The EPWP participants were placed at placement institutions as community facilitators, public safety assistants, law enforcement assistants, administration assistants, junior instructors, sport coaches and playmakers.
[c] The EPWP participants are from the 5 district municipalities across the Western Cape Province namely, Cape Winelands, Central Karoo, Eden, Overberg and West Coast as well as the Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality.
Out of nine hundred and ninety three [993] participants, four hundred and ninety eight [498] were females and four hundred and ninety five [495] were males. Overall, 63% of participants were Africans and 37% were Coloureds.
