(c) How many interns were permanently employed by the Western Cape Government following the completion of their internships during the same period?
Response:
The Public Service Regulations do not provide for absorption into positions. Interns apply for vacant positions, go through a selection process and get appointed in employment opportunities after completion of the Programme, noting the limited funded vacancies available in the Public Service. The main purpose of internship programme is to develop skills of the participants in terms of preparing them for either employment, further studies or self-employment opportunities, including small and informal business opportunities.
