Whether the Western Cape Government will be sending a delegation to participate in the 29th Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP29) taking place in November this year in Azerbaijan; if so, what are the intended goals of the delegation.
My Department is currently not planning on sending a delegation from WCG to COP29, however, opportunities may arise closer to the time. We have not sent a WCG delegation to the COPs for a number of years, but in the last few years have had opportunities to attend side events funded through our membership to the Under2 Coalition as well as the Mediterranean Climate Action Partnership (MCAP). Provincial governments are not involved with the negotiations as this work is undertaken by the negotiating team based at national government.
