Social Development
With regard to the Western Cape Government’s Gender-Based Violence Implementation Plan:
- How much has been spent on implementation since the inception of the plan, (b) what are the (i) interventions and (ii) services offered by his department and (c) what progress has been made by his Department in combating gender-based violence?
(a) Department of Social Development have no set budget for this plan and in response, the department have a dedicated person to coordinate the Implementation plan so that it attracts the attention it deserves.
(b) DSD led VEP Provincial, Regional and local Forums and attend external Stakeholders Engagements such as the Trafficking in Persons Task Team: Quarterly
Gender Justice Forum: Bi-monthly.
DSD render Psychosocial, Group work and Community Work interventions.
The department fund organisations to render Community Based Prevention, Educational Workshops and individual interventions with men.
Furthermore, the department offers Community Awareness programs on gender-based violence and School Based programmes.
Various trainings are offered to be funded Non-Profit Organisations
In the 2023/2024 Financial year 32 692 received psychosocial services from funded victim empowerment organisations. DSD funds the Khuseleka Model One Stop Centre which render legal support where 486 persons were reached. 19 563 families were reached through DSD Family preservation and support services program. DSD Perpetrator Programmes reached 2 085 perpetrators of gender-based violence.
672 Dignity packs were distributed amongst learners at schools across the Western Cape. 9 939 persons partake in educational and awareness programmes across the Western Cape.
