Joint Meeting SC Environmental Affairs and Development Planning and SC Economic Opportunities, Tourism and Agriculture

The objective for this special joint meeting between the Standing Committees on Environmental Affairs and Development Planning and Economic Opportunities, Tourism and Agriculture, is to engage with the Department around some of the concerns raised by farmers and industry stakeholders regarding red tape that hampers the building of dams and attaining of water licenses for farms. The committees will also be engaging with Disaster Risk Management on their response time to fires, in particular the fires that devastated 82 hectares of farm land in the Western Cape.

1.  Briefing by the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning on the Environmental Impact Assessment process relating to the construction of farm dams

2.   Briefing on water licenses for farmers for the agricultural sector

3.   Briefing by the Provincial Department of Local Government’s Disaster Management Directorate on their  

      Response Plan for fires that impact on farmland in the Western Cape

4.  Recommendations/Actions
