Whether his Department and local governments in the province have a record of requests submitted to the National Department of Public Works for the transfer and release of land for housing projects; if so, how many of the requests submitted over the last ten years (a) have been granted, (b) have been turned down or (c) are still pending?
Answer Body:
- Two properties have successfully been acquired;
(b) + (c) A final decision from the National Department of Public Works (NDPW) regarding the remaining properties is pending.
Even though non-metro municipalities initially requested NDPW to transfer and release land in their regions, my department resubmitted the request last year.
A list of thirty-eight (38) properties with dates as requested is attached hereto as Annexure 1.
