Question Body:

(1)    What is the potential pollution risk posed by the effluent from the various sewerage systems of the campsite, chalets and staff housing at the Algeria Forest Station;

(2)    whether there are any plans in place for further upgrades to or maintenance of the sewerage systems of the Algeria Forest Station; if not, why not; if so, (a) what are the relevant details and (b) when will it be completed?

Answer Body:

1.    There is a minimal potential of risk for pollution by effluent from the campsite, chalets and staff housing at the CapeNature Algeria Complex.  The system installed is a closed Waste Water Treatment Facility and is compliant with the Department of Water and Sanitation’s checklist. The system is one of the first to be installed within a conservation area and the water quality at the reserve level is monitored monthly by the CSIR. Furthermore, CapeNature has established a Wastewater Treatment and Management Incident Management Protocol as required by law in the unlikely event that a disaster does occur.

2.    There are no plans for further upgrades as the current system will not require this in the near future.  The CapeNature maintenance and tourism management team at the site has undergone the required training to manage and operate the facility as part of their daily duties and thus no external maintenance services will be required.
