(a) How does her Department monitor learner migration, (b) how many non-South African learners are enrolled at Western Cape schools and (c) how many learners from other provinces in the country has her Department accommodated in the current academic year?
(a) As part of the WCED’s Admissions Policy all WCED schools are required to register learners on the Centralised Education Management Information System (CEMIS). For 1st time registrations schools are required to select whether a learner is a SA or non-SA citizen (compulsory field). In addition, schools are required to indicate whether it is the 1st time the learner is registered at a WCED school and where they were registered in the last year prompting the response to indicate the Province/ Country (Province of Country must be specified).
(b) For the 2019 academic year 1643 (Source: Annual School Survey 2019) Non-South African learners, based on the information captured by schools, were enrolled at all WCED Public Ordinary Schools (GRR to 12).
(c) 22 014 based on the information captured by schools, (Source: Annual School Survey 2019) learners originating from other provinces were registered at WCED Public Ordinary Schools.
