What plans does his Department have in place to prepare the province’s roads and transportation networks for the influx of traffic over the festive period?
The Department has developed a comprehensive 2019/20 Festive Season Plan to deal with the influx of traffic over the festive season. In general terms the Plan includes, but is not limited to:
National Interventions
Provincial Tactical and Operational Focal areas including driver fitness, passengers and documentation
Moving violations
Vulnerable road users (Pedestrians, cyclists and motor cyclists)
Fatigue Management programme: Public and Freight Transport
Alcohol enforcement
Communication Strategy
Inter Provincial Traffic and SAPS Operations
Although the Plan is implemented earlier, the official launch is set for 5 December 2019.
