Question Number:

Question Body:

Whether her Department has plans to (a) refurbish or (b) expand any school in the area covered by the City of Cape Town’s wards 61, 64, 69 and 71; if so, what are the relevant details?

Answer Body:

The WCED does not plan to refurbish or expand any schools in these wards over the next MTEF, but have provided additional classrooms at Ocean View Seconday School and established a new mobile school in Ocean View called Jupiter Street Primary School in 2018/19.

In addition to this the WCED is planning the replacement of Ocean View LSEN School within a different area (Coniston) but this is not planned in the current MTEF and has identified the need to replace Kleinberg PS over the long term.

The WCED have also identified the need for a new primary school in Masiphumelele area, but have not been able to secure a suitable property for this purpose. No government owned land is available in the area that can be used for the development of a school. Again the development and timeframes of this project is also dependant on the availability of budget.

The following schools are identified to receive scheduled maintenance within the following MTEF: Fish Hoek PS, Marine PS, Ocean View HS, Ukhanyo PS and Westlake PS. The timeframes related to the implementation of these projects are also dependent upon the availability of budget over the MTEF period.
