(1) Whether his Department has plans to build additional housing in Westlake, Cape Town; if so, what are the relevant details;
(2) whether his Department has plans to assist backyarders residing in Westlake, Cape Town; if so, what are the relevant details?
1. The City of Cape Town has no planned projects for Westlake. However, new projects have been initiated in Retreat, Vrygrond, Pelican Park Phase 2 and Strandfontein. Qualifying beneficiaries from Westlake could possibly be assisted in the areas listed.
The City is currently conducting a detailed beneficiary analysis in order to quantify the housing need of the entire Sub council after which allocations can be determined for the proposed projects.This analysis is being done to ensure that applicants on the housing demand database is from the various areas with the greatest need in terms of age and disability.
2. Westlake backyarders who are on the City’s waiting list may benefit from one of the above projects, depending on the outcome of the beneficiary analysis.
My Department has also launched an initiative known as the “Greater Retreat” project, which could possibly include the Westlake backyarders.
