Question Body:

(a) How many police stations in the province have victim-friendly rooms, (b) how many police officers have been trained to roll out the Victim Empowerment Service and (c) how do police officers register such cases?

Answer Body:

The South African Police Service informed me as follows:

5.          (a) 151 police stations in the province have a victim friendly room.

             (b) Trained personnel:

  • Victim Empowerment = 2 544
  • Domestic Violence Learning Programme = 3 948
  • First Responder to Sexual Offences Learning Programme = 1 773
  • Vulnerable Children Learning Programme = 1 665

(c) Experienced detectives specialising in the specific field will assist with the taking of a statement from the victim where after a case                    docket is opened and the case registered on the CAS. Dependent on the nature of the complaint specialised units may be called for                statement taking and/or other referrals. The privacy of the victim is always honoured and therefor such statements will be taken in                    private.
