Speaker Masizole Mnqasela has announced that he has initiated a Speaker’s debate in commemoration of National Women’s Month to take place in the Chamber of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament on Thursday, 15 August 2019 at 14:15.
Earlier today the Speaker of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament hosted the official opening of the first session of the Provincial Parliament.
On 17 July, the eve of the official opening of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament (WCPP) and the Premier's State of the Province Address, Speaker Masizole Mnqasela and Deputy Speaker Beverley Schäfer hosted a cocktail function for the Cape Town Consular Corps.
Since the swearing in of the Members of the Sixth Provincial Parliament of the Western Cape, all elected Members of the seven political parties in the WCPP and elected office-bearers have been undergoing comprehensive orientation on their respective roles within the institution. These orientation sessions will continue over the next 12 months to equip the Members to play their role as parliamentary representatives to the full.

One of the first duties of new WCPP Speaker, Hon Masizole Mnqasela, was to preside over the election of the new Deputy Speaker for the Sixth Parliament of the Western Cape on 22 May 2019. Hon Beverley Schäfer was elected as new Deputy Speaker.
Hon Masizole Mnqasela was elected as Speaker of the Sixth Parliament of the Western Cape during the first Sitting of the House on 22 May 2019.
The first sitting of the Sixth Provincial Parliament of the Western Cape is scheduled to take place tomorrow, 22 May, at 10:30. During the sitting Members will be sworn-in by the Judge President of the Western Cape High Court, John Hlophe. This will be followed by the election of the Premier, Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
