(a) What progress has been made with regard to the establishment of the Violence Prevention Unit in her Department and (b) what is the (i) detailed budget breakdown and (ii) recruitment details for the unit’s staff?
- The Violence Prevention Unit has been capacitated since August 2023. Ten Violence Prevention Coordinators started on 1 August 2023, in the five Districts and in three of the four Sub-Structures. The Director: Violence Prevention started on 1 September 2023 and on 1 November 2023, two Deputy Directors and one Personal Assistant commenced duty. The remaining appointments are expected to be finalised by the end of the 2023/24 financial year. The Violence Prevention Unit is currently focusing on developing the strategic approach for violence prevention, and on capacitating the coordinators to convene Area-Based Teams for Safety in the identified crime hotspots.
