Official Opening and Premier's Opening Address held in Cape Town
The official opening ceremony of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament (WCPP) took place this morning. Premier Alan Winde delivered his 2024 Opening Address (POA) during the sitting.

Elected as Presiding Officers of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament at the first sitting of the 7th Parliament on 13 June, Speaker Daylin Mitchell and Deputy Speaker Reagen Allen.

The Western Cape Provincial Parliament will host a virtual roundtable engagement with small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) on Friday, 29 September, at 14:00. The theme for the event: Propelling SMMEs as key economic drivers in the Western Cape.

South African Sign Language 12th official language
Speaker Daylin Mitchell has welcomed the news that the National Assembly, during its plenary sitting on Tuesday, 2 May, adopted an amendment to section 6 of the Constitution, unanimously endorsing South African Sign Language as the 12th official language of South Africa.
WCPP Engage
The Western Cape Provincial Parliament (WCPP) will host a WCPP Engage Programme in Caledon, on Tuesday, 18 April at 10:00. With the aim to strengthen democracy, the programme seeks to facilitate meaningful engagement between the Members of the WCPP and stakeholders from the Theewaterskloof and Overstrand Local Municipalities.
Virtual Roundtable Engagement for People Living with Disabilities
On Wednesday, 5 April 2023, at 14:00, the Western Cape Provincial Parliament will host a virtual roundtable engagement for people living with disabilities. Stakeholders from across the Western Cape, including people living with disabilities and organisations working with people with disabilities, will attend the engagement. The theme for the event is “Accessibility, mobility and societal integration.”
Official Opening and SOPA to be held in Cape Town
STATEMENT BY SPEAKER DAYLIN MITCHELL OF THE WCPP ON OFFICIAL OPENING AND SOPA
“I am pleased to announce that the Official Opening of the fifth session of the Sixth Parliament of the Western Cape, and the Premier’s State of the Province Address (SOPA), will take place on Thursday, 16 February 2023, at the Western Cape Provincial Parliament Building, 7 Wale Street, Cape Town. The debate on the SOPA will take place in the same venue on the morning of Friday, 17 February, followed by the Premier’s reply to the debate inthe afternoon.
Violent SANTACO shutdown condemned
The Multi-Party Standing Committee on Transport and Public Works of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament met this morning and wishes to express its serious concern at the recent disruption of the public transport system by the two-day shutdown by the South African Taxi Council (SANTACO) from the 21 to 22 November 2022.
