Public Education

One of the core objectives of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament is to facilitate public participation and involvement in its processes and activities. In order to take part in the activities of Parliament, citizens need to be educated, informed and empowered.

Part of the role of the PEO Section of the WCPP is to inform citizens on how they can get involved and influence the laws that govern their lives. The PEO Section facilitates education workshops and activities across the province.   The education programme includes the following elements:

  • The principles of democracy
  • The constitution and its application to the law-making process
  • The Arms of the State: The Legislature, The Executive and the Judiciary
  • The Law-making process
  • The Submissions process
  • The Petitions process
