The Speaker

The Speaker is the principal office-bearer in the Western Cape Provincial Parliament. The Speaker is the spokesperson of the House, chairs its meetings and is its “Minister” with regard to its support services. In representing the House, the Speaker represents all the Members: those in government and those in opposition. The Speaker is supported and assisted by the elected Deputy Speaker.

The Secretary

The Secretary to the Provincial Parliament is the chief adviser to the Speaker and to Members of the House on all administrative and procedural matters. The Secretary is responsible for a wide range of duties relating to the proceedings and official records of the House and its committees and to the general administration of the House. He/she is also the accounting officer of the administration of Parliament.
