With regards to the “Getting YOU to Work” Pilot Project:
- (i) How do jobseekers get a voucher in order to get the benefits of this pilot project and (ii) which areas are covered, (b) what is the duration of this pilot project and (c) how much will the Western Cape Government pay to Golden Arrow Bus Services for the duration of this pilot project?
- (i) Jobseekers must be nominated for a voucher by companies participating in the programme. A company must first register as an Employer on the Jobseeker Voucher Portal, and then they can nominate interview candidates to benefit through receiving a voucher. Jobseekers who are nominated for a voucher receive an SMS requesting them to complete their registration. Once registered, they will then be able to collect their voucher from a GABS kiosk, vendor, or mobile van. A voucher comprises a free Gold Card loaded with 12 free trips.
ii) The voucher trips can be used anywhere on the GABS network between 08:00 and 16:00 Mondays to Fridays. GABS services primarily operate in Cape Town, but also have services in the greater Cape metro area, such as Malmesbury and Wellington
- The project was launched on 9 February 2024 and is planned to run until 31st March 2025. The project duration is just over 13 months.
- Transport services for beneficiaries of the pilot are being provided by GABS at no cost to Province, during off-peak when there is spare capacity on the buses. The Department will pay for the cost of Gold Cards used by jobseekers to access the service (R35 per card) and admin costs. The total cost of the project will depend on the number of job seekers that take up the opportunity.
