WCPP to co-host CPA Residency Programme

The Western Cape Provincial Parliament (WCPP) will co-host the 2022 Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Residency Programme in Cape Town, from 24 to 28 October 2022. The programme, which will be attended by 35 Members of Parliament, representing parliaments from across the Commonwealth, is intended to enhance the professional development skills of Parliamentarians.

 

A sad day at the WCPP: Sudden passing of Chief Whip, Hon Lorraine Botha

CPA constitution now allows for more women participation

In a historic moment today, during the General Assembly of the 65th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) in Halifax, Canada, the Western Cape Provincial Parliament (WCPP) tabled an amendment to the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association’s (CPA) constitution to provide for increased participation by women parliamentarians.

 

The amendment served at the CPA, Africa Region conference in June this year where it received unanimous support by all Commonwealth African Parliaments.

 

Standing Committee on Health to engage with public on COVID-19 vaccinations

The Western Cape Provincial Parliament’s Standing Committee on Health is conducting public engagements in areas with low COVID-19 vaccination rollout across the province to engage and encourage the public to vaccinate.

 

The committee has invited the provincial Department of Health to attend the public engagements and brief the public on the COVID-19 vaccination (with specific reference to Mitchells Plain), vaccination benefits, and COVID-19 booster and answer any questions of clarity from the public.

 

Thetha Nathi rolled out in Cape Metro

The Speaker of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament (WCPP), Honourable Masizole Mnqasela, will host four sessions of the institution’s public engagement programme, Thetha Nathi, in various areas in the Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality during March 2022, including:

 

• 17 March: Bellville;

• 18 March: Bloubergstrand

• 22 March: Mitchells Plain; and

• 23 March: Khayelitsha.
