Police Oversight, Community Safety, Cultural Affairs and Sport
It is the mandate of the Standing Committee on Police Oversight, Community Safety, Cultural Affairs and Sport to facilitate public participation, monitoring and oversight function over the legislative processes relating to the portfolio under this committee; Confer with relevant governmental and civil society organs on matters relevant to this committee; Exercise compliance and performance oversight over the relevant departments; Scrutinise and interrogate annual reports, budget votes of departments falling within this committee; Enhance and develop the capacity of its Members to exercise effective oversight over the Executive Authority; Monitor whether the Department of Community Safety and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport fulfil its mandate; Responsible for the consideration of provincial bills and NCOP (76 Bills)
The Department of Community Safety, the Western Cape Liquor Authority, the Western Cape Police Ombudsman and the South African Police Service (Western Cape) report to the community safety portfolio strand of this committee. The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport and its entities, namely Heritage Western Cape, the Western Cape Language Committee and the Western Cape Cultural Commission, report to the cultural affairs and sport portfolio strand of this committee.
