Knysna fire disaster and Cape storm clean-up briefing
The Standing Committee on Local Government will be briefed by the Department of Local Government on the status on the Knysna fire disaster and the cleaning up efforts after the storm that affected the Cape Peninsula on 7 June 2017. The committee will also be briefed on the Western Cape’s Integrated Fire Management Strategy and, together with the Drought Task Team, on the engagement of municipalities on the state of water resources in the Western Cape.

New Member sworn in
New WCPP Member Tertuis Simmers was sworn-in by Speaker Sharna Fernandez on 12 June. He joins the WCPP as Member, representing the Democratic Alliance, in the vacancy created by the resignation of Member Rodney Lentit. We wish him all the best for his term.
Office of National Police Commissioner to respond
The Standing Committee on Community Safety will host a delegation from the Office of the National Police Commissioner to the Western Cape Provincial Parliament on 7 June 2017. The delegation will respond to the committee's report on the impact of police resources following the public participation process facilitated during October 2016.

Public hearings on Plant Bills
The Western Cape Provincial Parliament’s Standing Committee on Economic Opportunities, Tourism and Agriculture will conduct a series of public hearings focusing on the Plant Improvement Bill [B 8B–2015] (NCOP) and the Plant Breeders’ Rights Bill [B 11B–2015] (NCOP). These public hearings will be conducted in accordance with the national Constitution and the Constitution of the Western Cape.

Public meetings on EMS attacks
The Western Cape Provincial Parliament’s Standing Committee on Community Development will conduct two follow-up stakeholder and public consultation meetings focusing on the attacks on Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel in the province.
Black Sash to brief standing committee
The Standing Committee on Community Development (Social Development portfolio) will be briefed by the Black Sash on the progress made in the province to reimburse the social grant beneficiaries affected by the unlawful and fraudulent and fraudulent deductions on government grants.
The Committee will also be briefed by the Credit Ombudsman on the rights of the social grant beneficiaries, how these unlawful deductions can be stopped, and how the beneficiaries can be fully reimbursed.

Western Cape Budget Speech
On Tuesday, 7 March 2017, Western Cape Minister of Finance, Dr Ivan Meyer, will deliver the Western Cape Government’s 2017/2018 Budget Address in the Western Cape Provincial Legislature.
This will be preceded by a press conference. Media are invited to attend. (There will be opportunities for photographs and interviews)

Public meetings on EMS attacks
The Western Cape Provincial Parliament’s Standing Committee on Community Development will conduct two stakeholder and public consultation meetings focusing on the attacks on Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel in the province.
The purpose of the meetings is to provide the relevant stakeholders and members of the public with the opportunity to provide input on the impact of the continual attacks on communities. The meetings will also explore how communities can find solutions to curb the attacks on EMS personnel when they render services in specific communities.
Follow-up SASSA briefing
The Standing Committee on Community Development (social development portfolio) will be briefed by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) on the progress made to reimburse social grant beneficiaries affected by the unlawful and fraudulent deductions and on the progress made by SASSA in building its own capacity to ensure an effective migration process from outsourcing to insourcing social grant services.
