Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning
- What are the (i) time frames, (ii) contact details for input and (iii) venues to be used for the public participation process that will inform the decision regarding vehicular access to the Jonkershoek Nature Reserve, (b) which interest groups will be invited to provide input for this process and (c) how will the general public be informed of this process?
- The first stakeholder engagement meeting as part of the public participation process, will be held on 30 March 2020 from 18H00 until 20H00.
(ii)The contact details are: Ms Petro van Rhyn, pvrhyn@capenature.co.za. Ms Van Rhyn is CapeNature’s General Manager: Advocacy.
(iii) The venue for the meeting on 30 March 2020 is the Mountain to Ocean Conference venue in Jonkershoek, Stellenbosch.
b) The interest groups that will be invited to provide input to the public participation process include Berg-Toerklub Society of Stellenbosch University; Mountain Club of South Africa, Stellenbosch; Come Hike Hiking Club, Cape Town; and the Mountain Club of South Africa Hottentots Holland Mountain Search and Rescue Team. CapeNature has received at least 33 expressions of interest to date.
- The general public will be informed of the process as follows: Parties who have expressed an interest will receive an invitation via e-mail. CapeNature has already had a one-hour live interview on Cape Talk Radio on 14 February 2020, to answer questions posed by the public and also used the opportunity to announce the planned Protected Area Advisory Committee and invited interested members to register with CapeNature for this public participation process.
Furthermore, the event will receive editorial coverage which will be published in the three community newspapers in the Helderberg and Stellenbosch areas.
