  1. Whether provisions are made in the current financial year for a school hall to be built at the Weltevrede High School; if not, in which financial year will this need be addressed; if so, what are the relevant details;
  1. (a) what is the current teacher–learner ratio at the Weltevrede High School and (b) how will her Department deal with the overcrowded classrooms;
  1. whether more teacher posts will be created at this high school; if not, why not; if so, how many and by when?

 

Answer Body: 

 

There is no provision for a school hall at Weltevrede High School at present. The WCED is focusing on eliminating backlogs as gazetted in the Norms and Standards of 2013.  Halls do not form part of these backlogs. We have, however, worked with organisations to provide school halls, such as Garden Cities, when budget allows. We also make provision for school halls when building new schools.

(2)     (a)    The current ratio is 1:31.

(b)    The school has been allocated 6 additional posts to deal with growth and curriculum this year.
