(a) What is the number of gender-based violence cases that have been reported in the Western Cape since the sale of alcohol was unbanned, (b)(i) what is the number of victims who have applied for admission at victim empowerment centres since the ban on the sale of alcohol was lifted and (ii) how many were admitted and (c) how much has her Department (i) spent on victim empowerment programmes between 26 March and 30 June 2020 and (ii) what is the breakdown of this expenditure?

Answer Body: 

The Victim Empowerment Programme can only report on the number of gender based violence victims that received psychosocial support at funded VEP service sites in the first quarter of lockdown. The Programme is busy with the verification process of non – financial data submitted by funded NPO’s on 10 July 2020, and has not yet completed the process. 
The following number of victims that received services has been verified.
Number of admissions of women and children to shelters during 1 April – 30 June: 213
Number of sexual offence victims and their family members that received psychosocial support services at Thuthuzela Care Centres: 562
and (c) how much has her Department (i) spent on victim empowerment programmes between 26 March and 30 June 2020 and (ii) what is the breakdown of this expenditure?

The Victim Empowerment Programme transfer budget for the financial year 2020/2021 is R 53 630 000.  
For the period 1 April – 30 June 2020, R 6 469 608 was transferred to shelters and R 4 910 721 to service organisations.
