With regard to the increase in the number of cases of gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide in the province:

 

  1. What is her Department doing to increase support for victims;

 

whether her Department has plans to increase funding in order to expand the services for the victims of gender-based violence; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?

Answer Body: 
  1. a Total of Stage 1 shelters (64 beds) were established to receive victims of domestic violence/GBV. The Department is also in process of transferring 6 properties from national Public Works and Infrastructure to the Western Cape Province to be utilised as additional bed space. These shelters will be in rural areas and will establish 50 beds per cycle that will make available 200 beds per year.

Yes the Department will increase funding to Shelters within the 20/21 financial year by expanding bed spaces to the 6 new shelters. The recruitment of 30 VEP Social workers is also in process for extra capacity.
