Whether any provision for additional victim empowerment centres in the province has been made in the 2020/21 financial year; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?
Answer Body:
The Department of Social Development is making provision to provide psychosocial support for sexual offence victims at the new Thuthuzela Care Centre site in Paarl, extending bed spaces at existing shelters as well as to activate services at 6 new shelters sites that were identified. A total of 30 social workers were appointed to exclusively render services relating to GBV matters at Departmental local offices.
