Whether he has received reports of some hotels and/or wine estates with restaurants that are still operating and forcing workers to be at work; if so, (a) what are the relevant details and (b) will he investigate the practice?
The WCDoA has not received any reports regarding hotels and/or wine estates that are still operating and forcing workers to be at work. Furthermore, it is not likely that the Department will be informed of this type of contravention, given that tourism-related matters would normally be referred to the provincial Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDAT), and where there is relevance to the agri-tourism sector, such matters may fall within the scope and mandate of Nature Conversation, depending on the context, to which the department will make inputs, if required to do so. Currently, the agri-tourism sector is not recognised as an essential service and therefore no agri-tourism business should be operating until such time that the national lockdown has been lifted.
