A total of 150 138 applications have been received.

(c)What is the breakdown of the applications for the 2021 academic year that have been declined, including the:

(i)grades that had been applied for, and;

The following must be taken into consideration in terms of the following response:

1.Parents were granted until 3 July to confirm the spaces offered to them.

2.After the 3^rd of July the system allocated spaces to learners in terms of the parent’s priority preference in the application.

3.Schools are now in the process of filling other vacant spaces that have opened since the processes in (1) and (2) were finalised.

4.This will take place until approximately the end of September. Schools must contact parents on their waiting lists and parents then have 3 days to respond. If the parents don’t respond, the school will offer the place to another unplaced learner.

5.The table below reflects on the number of learners declined (unplaced) as at 20 July 2020. However, this is not the final number of declined learners. It is a moving target and will fluctuate as progress is made with the process in (3).

The Question on quintiles cannot be responded to for the following reason:

• Parents have applied to schools across multiple quintiles, circuits and districts.
• Learners have therefore been declined by schools from all quintiles.
