With regard to the COVID-19 outbreak in the province:

 

  1. Whether her Department has been allocated additional funding to respond to the outbreak in the province; if not, why not, if so, what are the relevant details;

 

  1. Whether her Department has procured any additional face masks and gloves in response to COVID-19; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details;

 

  1. (a) What is the number to COVID-19 tests kits that are available in the province and (b) what is the total number of and details of self-quarantine centres that are available in the province;

 

  1. Whether, with regard to the number of COVID-19 positive cases that have been confirmed in the province, she can provide details of how many are (a) quarantined at home, (b) in self-isolation centres and (c) hospitalised as at the latest available information, if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details;

 

  1. Whether all the COVID-19 positive cases from poor areas, such as Khayelitsha, Mitchells Plain ad Klipfontein and contacts, have been taken to designated isolation centres, if not, why not; is so, what are the relevant details
Answer Body: 
  1. Yes. The Department made an application for R53million through the Provincial Disaster Grant.

 

  1. Yes. The Department procured additional personal protective equipment for staff ranging from surgical and N95 masks to gloves and goggles. PPE orders to amount of R185m worth have been placed.

 

  1. (a) As at 5 May 2020, the NHLS had an estimate of 4600 test kits on hand and was expecting delivery of more test kits on 6 May 2020. And the private sector collectively had an estimate 152 000 kits.

 

(b) Through partnerships with both private and other spheres of government, the Department has secured 186 (public owned) and 152 (private) isolation and quarantine sites. The location of these sites is available but due to patient confidentiality can only be made available for the improvement and management of patients’ health.

 

  1. As at 29 April, there were 1273 currently infected. Of these:

(a) 802 were in isolation at home

(b) 119 in quarantine sites and 268 in isolation sites

(c) 84 were in hospital

 

  1. The isolation and quarantine sites are designated for people who cannot safely isolate or quarantine at home, irrespective of their area of residence. If someone can safely isolate at home, we encourage them to do so.
