How many incidents of thieves attacking vehicles on roads by stoning, stealing or hijacking vehicles have been reported to his Department in (a) 2017/18, (b) 2018/19 and (c) 2019/20 to date?
Crimes are reported to the South African Police Services, rather than the Department of Transport & Public Works. The Department has received recent information from the SAPS per the table below. The figures indicate that truck attacks on the N1 in the Western Cape have declined considerably between 2018 and 2019. As of June 2019, there were 18 truck attacks on the “N1 Cape Town”, which is 79.5% less than the 88 attacks reported in the same period last year.
