Question Number:

Question Body:

(a) What is the number of teachers with underlying conditions who have been allowed to work from home and (b) what tools of the trade has her Department provided to them?

Answer Body:

(a)    2 261 applications from WCED teachers for special work arrangements due to comorbidities have been approved. As per the Collective Agreement 1 of 2020 (attached), a variety of special arrangements can be made depending on the unique circumstances of each teacher. These arrangements may include, but are not limited to, working from home.

(b)    The Cape Teaching and Leadership Institute (CTLI) has made a self-paced course on remote teaching available, and the WCED eLearning directorate has also made a number of guides on how to use various digital and social media tools for remote teaching (see attached).

Schools can also apply for a classroom assistant to be allocated to the school, to deliver lessons in person that have been prepared by staff members with comorbidities if they are working from home, or to supervise the class while the teacher gives the lesson via an online platform.
