  1. (a) How many religion-based schools have been closed by her Department since 2014 and (b) what were the reasons for the closure of each school;

 

  1. whether her Department offers any management support with regard to the administrative challenges that these schools are facing, if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details;

 

  1. whether her Department offers any assistance to poor, private religion-based schools by for example supplying them with textbooks; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?

 

Answer Body: 

(1)     (a)    An independent school will only be deregistered due to non-compliance with legislation / regulations / prescripts.  The WCED does not deregister any school based on religious factors.

(b)    Please find a list of independent schools that have been deregistered since 2014.

(3)     WCED does not supply textbooks to independent (private) schools. WCED only provides a financial subsidy to an independent school that has applied for such, on condition that the school qualifies for the subsidy and that the school is in existence for more than a year.
