Whether her Department has received any complaints from schools in the Southern Cape about shebeens in the vicinity of schools; if so, how is the Department attending to these complaints?
Answer Body:
9. Schools and communities have reported the following complaints related to shebeens:
- Location near to a school
- Noise
- Selling liquor to learners
- Shebeen patrons as a risk to learners at schools
- Operation times of a shebeen
All of the above-mentioned complaints have been taken to the Safety and Security Joint Meeting where the issue is receiving attention. The cluster lead made it clear that no illegal shebeen should be operating and they must be closed.
