  1. What is the number of ablution facilities that can be used at Bongolethu Primary School in Oudtshoorn;
  1. whether her Department has plans to fix the ablution facilities at the Bongolethu Primary School; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?

 

Answer Body: 
  1. The number of sanitary fixtures that can be used at Bongolethu Primary School, Oudtshoorn, are:

 Boys:

1 (one) trough-type urinal

6 (six) toilets

Wash hand basins

Girls

6 (six) toilets

Wash hand basins 

Staff

6 (six) toilets: 2 (two) male, 3 (three) female, 1 (one) disabled accessible (unisex)

1 (one) male urinal

Wash hand basins

  1. The school principal has not reported any dysfunctional or inoperative sanitary fixtures. He did however raise concerns over:
  • Toilet cisterns are old and still operated (flushed) by chains;
  • Regular blockages experienced in the existing sewerage discharge system;
  • Regular leaks experienced with the aged & deteriorated water supply network.

Bongolethu Primary School is included in the 2020/21 financial year’s Preventative (Scheduled/Planned) Maintenance Programme at which time the ablutions including sewerage discharge & water supply shall be refurbished.
