Whether there are any pieces of land that have been identified for expropriation for the purpose of socio-economic development and the transformation in the CBD; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?
The Department of Transport and Public Works has not identified any pieces of land for expropriation for the purpose of socio-economic development and transformation in the CBD of Cape Town.
The department has, however, earmarked the following properties situated in the CBD of Cape Town for development in pursuit of the vision inspired priority of spatial transformation:
- Remainder Erf 281and Erf 282 Roggebaai, bounded by FW De Klerk Boulevard, Jan Smuts- and DF Malan Streets, Foreshore, for a residentially-led, mixed use development, with the view to creating a vibrant, inner-city cultural and creative hub.
- Erven 424, Portion of Remainder of 431, 440, 441, 442, 443, 444, 445, 446, 447, 448 and Portion of 2733 Oranjezicht, bounded by Upper Orange, Moray Place- and Breda Streets for development by the Department of Human Settlements.
- Possible partnership between the Department of Transport and Public Works and the national Department of Public Works and Infrastructure on Top Yard, Erf 96174, bounded by Buitenkant-, Glynn-, Hope- and Wesley Streets, Cape Town, in extent 1.1622 Ha, which is registered in the name of the Provincial Government – Western Cape. The property is currently being shared as a parking facility between the Western Cape Government and the National Parliament. The property is well located for consideration of best value including the potential development of affordable housing.
