- How many neighbourhood watches have been accredited since April 2019;
- whether his Department provides continual support in terms of resources; if so, what are the relevant details?
Answer Body:
(1) To date 180 neighbourhood watches have been accredited since April 2019.
(2) The Department of Community Safety provides a Starter Kit to each Neighbourhood Watch upon approval of accreditation. The Starter Kit is standard and consists of the following items:
- 15 x Reflective Vests;
- 5 x Torches;
- 15 x Safety Whistles;
- 2 x Strobe lights for the vehicles;
- 2 x Magnetic Decals;
- 1 x First Aid Kit;
- 1 x Fire Extinguisher, and
- 1 x Storage Box
Once they are approved they also qualify for funding in the amount of R10 000.00 which may be utilised towards their operational and administration costs.
