  1. (a) How many municipalities in the province owe money or funds to Eskom, (b) what are the names of the municipalities that owe Eskom, (c) how much does each municipality owe and (d) what are the reasons for each municipality’s non-payment;
  1. whether his Department has engaged with the respective municipalities on their non-payment of funds or money owed to Eskom; if so, what are the relevant details?

 

Answer Body: 

(1)   To date 180 neighbourhood watches have been accredited since April 2019.

(2)  The Department of Community Safety provides a Starter Kit to each Neighbourhood Watch upon approval of accreditation.  The Starter Kit is standard and consists of the following items:

  • 15 x Reflective Vests;
  • 5 x Torches;
  • 15 x Safety Whistles;
  • 2 x Strobe lights for the vehicles;
  • 2 x Magnetic Decals;
  • 1 x First Aid Kit;
  • 1 x Fire Extinguisher, and
  • 1 x Storage Box

Once they are approved they also qualify for funding in the amount of R10 000.00 which may be utilised towards their operational and administration costs.
