(a) How many members of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) units of the SAPS in the province are (i) currently being investigated and (ii) were investigated over the past five financial years for matters relating to misconduct or poor performance and (b) what is the status of these investigations.
  2. in light of nationwide attention to the issue of gender-based violence and the President’s comments regarding GBV as a pandemic, whether there is any plan or intention to specify a particular unit or entity at the South African Police Service for carrying out the functions and duties of the Victim Empowerment Programme (VEP); if so, what are the relevant details?

          (2)  Yes.

                 The SAPS Gender based Violence and Sexual Offences Plan was developed and implemented and focusses on responding to gender-based violence and femicide, especially violence against women and children.

The purpose of the plan is to ensure that gender-based violence and sexual offences are addressed through a coordinated approach by all SAPS disciplines.
